Bissell Steam Mops: The Evolution Of Cleaning

How to save money when you clean, and also help the environment with the help of the Bissell Steam Mop.

Bissell Steam Mop

It was really smart for Bissell to produce their line of Bissell steam mops.  Over the past several years, more and more people are trying to be more conscientious about how they go about cleaning their home.  This is why new steam-based cleaning products have become more and more standard in people’s homes.  Using it just gets people’s floors cleaner.

What Problems The Bissell Steam Mop Addresses

How does one get their home sanitary without using harsh, environmentally dangerous chemicals?  Up until recently, it’s been virtually impossible.  If you wanted to disinfect your kitchen floor, you needed to either get Lysol, or some type of bleach to do the job.   You have to fill up the buckets with water, and make sure that water was mixed with the appropriate solution of the above chemicals.  There’s the lugging around of that water to where you clean as well.  Then once you’ve moved it to where you want to clean, you need to dip the mop in, squeeze out the water somehow, and start mopping.  Every time you dip the mop back in, you have to squeeze that mop with your hands, and start all over.  It’s not very fun, and when you dump that all out, you’re sending all those chemicals and pollutants down the drain to wherever it goes and if you’re conscientious about that kind of thing, you pray that whatever water filtration system your municipality has is adequate to clean it.  If you’re like most, you probably don’t give it much thought.  These harsh chemicals work, yes, but they’re tough on your floors, on your skin, and also on the environment.

How The Bissell Steam Mop Floor Cleaner Addresses The Above Problems

The general idea of the line of Bissell Steam Mops is pretty much the same as above.  Get the floors clean, but the difference is, there’s much less of a negative impact as a result of the way it handles cleaning.  Instead of cleaning with harsh chemicals, Bissell’s Steam Mops clean with heat and water.  They superheat the surface so much that no living microbe can withstand that sort of heat.  This process requires only water to work, so there are no harsh chemicals.  When you are finished, you don’t have any smells of perfume or anything, just a clean surface.  There are no buckets of water to carry around, there is no mop to ring out, just simple and clean floors.

This is ideal if you have hardwood floors.  It’s not a good idea to be slinging water around with a mop on floors like that.  It’s much better to use something like the Bissell that will let the water easily evaporate, and won’t put any harsh chemicals on your hardwood floor.  It’s also beneficial if you have pets that track in dirt from outside.  It’s very quick to just plug in the steam mop, and mop it up.

The Bissell Steam Mop Line Features

There is a bit of a difference between the Bissell Steam Mop, and the Steam Mop Deluxe.  The Deluxe has a trigger, and the mop pad is more maneuverable than the original, and replacement pads are available on their website.  The Deluxe also comes with the fragrance and carpet refresher.  Both will heat equally.   I don’t personally use it on my carpet though.  Our bare floors are either tile or hardwood, so that’s where it gets most use.  There are a couple of drawbacks though.  Each unit only has a limited amount of space for water, so it’s easy for it to use up its water pretty quickly.  Also, there is sometimes a trail of water behind the mops.  Some people have said that the deluxe trigger feature is a bit tiresome to use as well.  The mop microfiber pads they give you are machine washable as well.  It takes about 30 seconds to get hot, and that should give you time to sweep up a bit head of time (which they recommend as do I).  Also, most hardwood floors can handle this type of cleaning, but make sure they’re sealed, and if possible check with the manufacturer of your floor.  Although not 100% perfect, I’d definitely recommend the Bissell Steam Mop as a capable upgrade to the old way of doing things.
